Call 5 different travel agents. #1 It's their job to lend a hand you. Tell them you are calling 4 other agencies because your shopping for the best deal. #2 Almost "everything" change week to week in Hawaii because of tour season. So pick a date thats good for everybody within the family.
Oahu is a really apt island. I have be there twice. And, here is so much to do. The kids will have greatly of fun parasailing, and a luau is really fun, on Oahu, they have a fantastic luau, which is call Paradise Cove, and it has lots of goings-on to do before the luau get started. Like canoeing, crafts, like making valid flowered lays, and it's really affordable. Also you can go to Pearl Harbor, which is free. Also you can step on a whale watching cruise, it's really fun when you get to see humpback whales by the boat, you get through lunch, and then you travel out on the deck and whale watch, and afterwards they turn the boat around and go support to the island. I hope that helped!
We in recent times got wager on to Oahu from Maui last darkness, while I did LOve Maui, it depends on what you are looking for, It is a pretty rural island, you have to drive to draw from where you want to walk. Oahu has it's rural areas, however it have alot of shopping and activities, it also have Pearl Harbor, and the biggest Swap Meet in the Islands (great for souveniers), and the swap touch is at the Aloha Stadium (where the NFL Pro Bowl takes place). It also have a GREAT bus system, so even if you didn't want to drive somewhere you most likely can receive there on "THE BUS". I do believe they contribute a one month pass also. Also not to miss would be the Paradise Cove Luau, Sea Life Park is great. And if you are an avid golfer nearby are lots of courses to make any golfer well. Oahu is also the cheaper of the bunch, although it is not very conceivable either. I do assume you would enjoy any of the islands. Some sites:

Oahu HI. I have stayed at hand with my husband and our son. Twice, my inlaws combined us there.
We stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel, where on earth inside the Oceanarium tower, there is a 3-story 280,000 gallon "aquarium" that is to say chock full of sealife of Hawaiian waters!
They have an excellent buffet style breakfast surrounded by the Oceanarium.
Go to the Honolulu Zoo the children will enjoy that. Also call in the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Oahu Hi.
I lived here all my existence (22 years now)
Just dont bother going to the zoo..unless u like birds... theres too heaps birds there.
Other than that here is fun places like the marine life park, river park, right now in attendance is the 50th state fair. and within july there is going to be a kaneohe creek fest and thats filled beside fun! have fun!! oh also hikes are fun too. manoa falls is nice. My parents like diamond head and makapuu lighthouse. wallow in.
I sensitive of think Maui make a great island to visit for the first time. The Kaanapali nouns is pretty popular and has a suitable selection of restaurants that you can saunter to. Maui has a great aquarium too.

Kauai isn't a discouraging choice either. Poipu Beach on the South Shore be recently identified as one of the most domestic friendly beaches. Kauai have lots of waterfalls, the Wiamea Canyon (a.k.a. the opulent canyon of the Pacific).

I've recently returned from Oahu and I stayed at Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore. I thought it seem like a biddable family friendly resort. And if you do jump, I agree with one of the faster "answerers", the Polynesian Cultural Center is great. I've actually simply written a review of it, at www.govisithawaii.com
