Hilton Village or Royal Hawaiian?

The Royal Hawaiian hands down.
Not as copious kids and families, better partition of the beach and more medium to the action of Waikiki. It's one of the historical hotels of Waikiki and still one of the best.

Rooms are opening better, the restaurant at the top floor in top groove. Pool is newer and nicer.
Royal Hawaiian is the best by far on Waikiki.
It depends on what you're looking for.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village is great for family and those who appreciate Hilton service. They offer masses rooms of varying price ranges and have various restaurants and pools on site. They also have a cargo room and spa on site.
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is owned by Sheraton and is a much smaller hotel. The rooms will be much smaller but will have the more square type charms of one of the original hotels of Waikiki.
The location of the Royal is right within the middle of Waikiki while HHV is on the edge closer to Ala Moana Shopping Center (one of, if, the largest outdoor shopping mall surrounded by the US).
