IPod contained by New York City or Jersey City?
I'm going to New York in April, but I'm staying within Jersey City (New Jersey State). I will buy an iPod but I don't where it is cheaper due to the taxes. Where is cheaper?

New Jersey has a cheaper sale tax (7%), while most areas of New York enjoy an 8% sales due. New York's actual sales export tax is 4%, but local taxes often take home it add up. NYC is slightly over 8%.
Always buy within NJ for sales toll rates. Theres also no tax on clothes surrounded by NJ.
As a previous respondent indicated, you will save roughly 1% if you buy your iPod within New Jersey.
Having said that, I would STRONGLY encourage you to buy surrounded by New York City. Specifically, I would buy your iPod directly from the Apple Store.
Why should you pay that extra 1%, you ask? Because going into the Apple Store on 59th Street is an surely phenomenal experience! The store is open 24 hours, and if you be in motion late at dark you'll encounter all carriage of colorful and interesting New Yorkers. The location is fantastic too, as it's right off Fifth Avenue and markedly close to Central Park. I like to progress shopping at the Apple store first; then afterwards own a hot dog from a street vendor, followed by a stroll through Central Park next to an ice cream. It's a quintessential New York experience.
Apple have opened another contemporary 24-hour store in the West Village too: It's a great neighborhood that you should noticeably check out while in the city.

If you go to electronic stores (no, they don't put on the market fake electronical devices) contained by Chinatown, they won't add levy on any of the iPods, plus they have current ones too!
Jersey City is an enterprise zone and the taxes there are 3.5%.
