Ice skating at Rockefeller Center...?

Okay I have found the officer website for the ice rink but it is indefinite. How do you book a session? Do you just show up and stand contained by line or can you book ahead? If I show up at 10:30 and that session is full can I book for the subsequent one or do I have to of late stand in column?

When is the best time to go? Late at hours of darkness? Afternoon? Morning?

Thanks for any experienced answers.

There is a free ice skating rink within Bryant Park behind the fundamental library on 42nd and 5th they do charge to rent skates
Its first come first serve. This time of year its about $27 to skate (incld rental). Best time to walk is AM first thing, not as crowded.

Alternatives
Wollman Rink within Central Park (bigger rink & $17 incl rental)
Bryant Park...FREE
The skating rink at Rockefeller Center is a showcase rink: everyone can see you. It has a remarkably 1940's Hollywood movie atmosphere: glamour and fantasy.

The rink surface is below the street rank and everyone standing around the rink at the street level and everyone within all the skyscrapers beside windows that facade towards the rink can see you from a bird's eye view, and the citizens in the restaurant at rink horizontal can see you straight out the window. You really should be a deeply good skater and look stunning because you are *on view* in a big process !

You might enjoy the rink contained by Central Park for outdoor skating, or Skyrink at Chelsea Piers if you wish to be indoors
