Good places to step surrounded by Austin, Texas?
My boyfriend and I turn 21 within 5 days of respectively other, my birthday falls later, on the weekend, and I'm planning a trip to Austin, Texas. I'd appreciate any recommendation on places to stay and visit while we are here. He's not really into the dance club scene, he'd probably be more comfortable within a good blues or sports stick... so.. lay it on me!

Yeah, like the other personage said, you probably don't want to hang around East 6th street for long if you're not into the salsa club scene. It's a fun spectacle, and on Saturday night they close the undamaged road to traffic, so it's good for inhabitants watching and whatnot, but it gets hoary quick.
You might want to check out the warehouse district (4th street), for more clubs and bar catering to a slightly older/more sophisticated crowd (also Antone's is there, and is a suitable place for live blues - check their schedule though). Red River is also a worthy place to go - lots of live music places (rock, punk, indie rock, goth (Elysium), techno (Plush), etc), plus lots of bar as well (Side Bar, Club DeVille, Beauty Bar, etc) - it's the more hipster/punk/rock side of town.
All of Red River / East 6th / Warehouse District is pretty much surrounded by walking distance of each other (as long as you're not surrounded by high heels or something humiliated, but there's pedicabs too), so it's a nice area to be within if you just want to walk from place to place and check it all out.
If it's a hot/sunny weekend, I recommend the greenbelt (people come across to like Campbell's Hole - it's free, everyone drinks beer, worthy people watching).
enjoy a great birthday weekend!
i like anything 6th street WEST of Congress - tons of bar, union park, molotov, the bellmont, etc. but east of congress is where on earth the college-age kids hang - $1 shots and stuff. Stay as close as you can to downtown. Red River st. is also a great street for bar. Visit UT campus, eat at curra's.
