Most of the African Americans are in the military and I'm positive they don't experience partially of the racism as they do in the mainland. I'm a local gal who grew up between the mainland and Hawaii, moved away for several years, and just now returned to Hawaii. I moved away to Cleveland, OH and you talk give or take a few racism difference. My first week there I get a barrage of racism, but mortal the "tita" I handled it okay. There is no comparison. Everywhere you shift, there is one form or another of racism, but the detestation is more predominant in the mainland, hands-down on that!
Yes there are alot of AA surrounded by Hawaii, most of us are military but some are just tourist of visit family. We don't really see racism in attendance as much as the mainland, the Hawaiians are nice and friendly to us, but i can't say alike for other races.
Most african americans that live in Hawaii are here because they are in/were within the military.
Hawaii is a unique place because since most everyone is of mixed descent, in attendance is not racism towards any particular race/religion. Of course, close to any place in the world, here is always someone who doesn't resembling someone else.but there are more folks that are understanding of other's race/culture/religion here contained by Hawaii than in other places.
Hope that answers your press..
yes there is racism especially against us Haoles, Id read aloud AA experience less racism than the whites here. Many places within Hawaii really do not like the mainland spell. But yes there are plentiful african americans here mostly because of the military
