When and why did the skyride (cable cars) contained by San Antonio shut down?

It was something like 1999. I remember because I lived in Mahnke Park across from Brackenridge and took my kids near alot. Then, I moved for a better family dynamic location for my kids although we be members of the zoo and would come recurrently. One day they said they be shutting down the cable cars. They were antiquated and built about 40 years ago, and not kept up, so they took them down. Hopefully they will put up something else helpful of fun. A lot has changed more or less Brackenridge, but there is like mad in the works to receive it better also.
Because they were deem unsafe, when they stranded a family of 4 up in that for 3 hrs... happened resembling 10 yrs ago i think
