Why do people other recommend the large department stores contained by Manhattan?
As a New Yorker, I think those sizeable stores are just similar to the stores you find in every other place.
If you want some place uniquely New York, you might want to try going to Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side (North of 72nd Street) or Prince or Spring Streets surrounded by Soho.
Those are more New York kinds of places to shop.

I loved Bloomingdale's when I was within New York in July, It have everything you want under 1 roof, Don't forget to pick up for a time brown bag while your contained by there. And com paired to the UK it's highly inexpensive. I hope you have as much fun in attendance as I did.
