Bubbalou's is a great BBQ place. There is one on Alafaya Trail fundamental the University and I think near is one in Winter Park. Amigo's have good Mexican food (although I'm not sure if that qualify for Amerian cooking). Johnny Rockets has excellent burgers and onion rings. Both of those can be found contained by Waterford Lakes Town Center (and other locations as well). Hot dog heaven have great hot dogs. There is one a couple miles north of UCF and another near Colonial and Semoran.

Too doomed to failure you want American, because the Chinese buffets around here in Kissimmee and Orlando are the bomb! Great stuff and inexpensive!

Mom-Pop diners: Shannon's Casual Cafe, Carol's Place, Uncle Henry's, Dixie Belle Cafe, Clarkies (All on South Orange Ave). Bryan's Restaurant on North Orange. TooJays (various locations)
Fine Dining: Houston's, Winter Park, Capital Grill I-Drive
Pizza - Anthony's (at Washington & Summerlin)
All-American chains: Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Cheescake Factory, Mimi's, Outback, Carraba's, Macoroni Grill, Smokey Bones, Pizza Hut
There are many, heaps places - this is not a complete list - but the places I know lots of the locals like - and I enjoy been a local for 40 years,

The BBQ surrounded by the south is pretty amazing! But to get non-chain food here within Orlando you really do have to scheme outside of the tourist discritc! Here is a list of some well brought-up restaurants...
