Both Bart, and the Muni systems have portions running underground.
If in that was some "forgotton" subway, how would anyone know, if it be truely "forgotten?"

When the Castro Street subway station was open in 1980, the Eureka Valley subway station (about a block away) be closed. That station was built within 1918.
The station infastructure is still there. But it is immediately adandoned, so it probably serves as a thriving habitat for rats and dust nowadays. It's unlikely to come into use again, as have two stations that close to each other would be redundant.
This is not exceptional for the East Coast, but most West Coast cities are too new to hold abandoned subway stations. However, San Francisco is pretty hoary (by West Coast standards).
